History of Coventry and Warwickshire IPMS Club
The Club has been active since 1986, and the origins of the club were a few modellers meeting up in pub back rooms and community centres in Coventry.
Some of the meeting venues were:
Holbrook community centre
Charterhouse on London road
Malt shovel pub in Spon end
We finally became associated with the Midland Air Museum around 1992, as a member who was also the trustee of the museum and invited the club to use the museum as a base.
We have a strong membership of around 40+, and on average we have 20-25 members attend our meetings.
The club meetings are twice monthly, normally the first and third Friday of each month, we occasionally have a third meeting, if the month is five weeks.
We have a junior modelers club, which is held on alternate Sundays every month.
The club members have no specified genre for building, we build everything from aircraft, armour, naval, and in some cases fantasy and sci-fi models.
We also run our own club show in the summer (around June/July) and attend and support the museum winter show in December.
On Bank Holiday weekends (on the Sunday and Monday) we usually put on a small display, and members of the club attend and we have a “build day”.
We regularly attend the IPMS scale model world show, and are the current winners of best club table 2019 and 2021.
