Here is an introduction to our First World War tribute currently on display at Midland Air Museum:
Great War Centenary 1914 to 1918
The 4 August 2014 marks the 100th anniversary of the day Great Britain entered one of the costliest conflicts. The war continued until the 11 November 1918 (Armistice Day).
To commemorate the Centenary IPMS Coventry and Warwickshire Model Club have recreated a typical western front battle scene.
The scene depicts the British and Allies on the right hand side of the diorama launching a large scale tank attack which is advancing over no man’s land towards the German line of trenches on the left hand side.
The air scene on the left hand side depicts aerial reconnaissance being carried out by the Allies on the German lines, the Germans in response have dispatched their fighters to shoot down the Allied aircraft. To counter the threat of a German response and to support a poorly armed and vulnerable scout aircraft the Allies have provided fighter air cover. The scene on the right hand side over the Allies trenches depicts a typical aerial dog fight.
All the models depicted are a scale of 1/72 and made from commercially available kits such as Airfix and Revell to name but a few. The ground terrain has been made using foam sheets which have been shaped and painted to create the scene.
Please take a look at our photos or why not come along to Midland Air Museum for the day and see it on display.
